Hi, I'm Matt. I decided to set up School Governor Consultancy Services following a number of years as a school governor myself. I know only too well how difficult being a school governor can be. I became a governor and within only 5 months (most of which were the summer holidays) the school was placed into Special Measures by Ofsted. Within a further 3 months the Chair had left and I was duly elected.

This was a very daunting task with no real structure or ideas on how to get help, or what to do. It didn't help that the Head Teacher also took a period of absence at the same time.

Fast forward 18 months and the school was out of Special Measures with a very solid "good" rating. This could so easily have been "outstanding" but for a few minor matters that needed to change.

Ofsted were very positive about me in their reports and highlighted the changes that I implemented. Moving forward a few more years and I have assisted other schools after being recommended following them being put into Special Measures themselves. It was following Ofsted's feedback and being able to offer support to other schools that I set the company up; to be able to offer that support and guidance that I was missing when I took the Chair. However, my vision when setting up the company was not just for when schools are placed into Special Measures, but for new Chairs, for refresher training for experienced Governors, for general networking and general advice.

Personally, I work as a consultant for ESFA, which is part of the Department for Education. I worked for Children's Social Care prior to this, and before that I was a Police Officer.

I have 2 children and only want the best for their education and future and know that school governors have a very similar ethos for all the children in their schools.
